Takahe sound bird 15cm

Takahe are another native NZ bird that is flightless.
At one stage it was thought that the Takahe was extinct but they were re-discovered in the Murchison Mountains, near Lake TeAnau in 1948.
Since then they have been a focus of a concentrated protection and breeding program.
Takahe are a large stocky bird; up to 63cm tall and weight up to 2.7kg
