Tennessee Walkers can overtake trotting horses at a walk.
The Tennessee Walker moves not only classy and elegant, it is also very soft and comfortable to ride. The reason for this are its gaits: the “Walk” and the “Running Walk” (= “race pace”). The horse makes such long steps that the rear hoof touches down well before the imprint of the front hoof. Hallmark of the Tennessee Walker is also the Canter, a slight, slow gallop. Here, the horse stretches its head far out, which is somewhat reminiscent of a rocking horse. Because of its gaits and its quiet nature, it is popular as for trail riding and as a show horse.
