G22U and G22CU are the first of a series of multipurpose locomotives made by General Motors, as a result of the G12 development. They have a higher power output and low nose cabin style. In 1984 there were 129 G22Us working in the steep grades of the Curitiba to Paranaguá line, where four locomotives were joined to haul very heavy trains loaded with sugar, rice, soy beans, petrol, etc.
